Tilda Swinton’s character, Dr. Alithea Binnie, lives happily surrounded by books and myths. They are in Istanbul for a conference. When she goes to the bazaar, she comes across an old glass bottle. Alithea returns to her hotel and watches in awe as a Djinn (Idris Elba) escapes from the vessel. And, as in the legend, the genie grants her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. But Alithea is hesitant. The jinn tries to win her over by telling her stories about his life and times gone by, about adventures and love.
